Inspirational escape

I have been busy in London, which is exciting but sometimes it’s good to switch off and go to somewhere else…in fact many inspirations were waiting for me in North England.

 

When I woke up,  what I saw from the room…

The sky is round ! Space and green, had a deep breath.   My brain got vitamin. 　I noticed I was tired.      My Easter gift was blessing from the sun !

 

 

ロンドンの忙しい毎日にちょっとブレイク。　休んでいる暇はないのですが、ちょっと仕事の電源をオフにして、イギリス北部へ車を走らせました。

目に飛び込んできた風景は、　丸みのある空に長閑な空間と春の緑。　おもいっきり深呼吸。　3ヶ月間、ノンストップでよく頑張ったな～と、ちょっと疲れている自分に気付きました。　何よりの恵みは、お日様の光。　　そして、きづいたら、スケッチしていました。

 

 

 

On the way back to London,  stopped at Chester. As the most complete walled city in Britain, Chester is one of Britain’s Heritage Cities. The surviving Roman grid pattern of streets are so compact that you can get around all the city’s landmarks on foot, feasting your eyes on an amazing architectural panorama of the past.

 

チェスターは、イギリス遺産都市の一つで、現在でもローマ式の城壁都市が美しく残っています。　町を散策した後に、チェスター大聖堂に入ってみたら、至るところに、素晴らしい教会の芸術が、散りばめられていました。

The new PIANOAPIANO production

This time, I visited Malawi for the new PIANOPIANO production and could first proceed with local research.

As usual, I was treated by a peaceful and stable breeze from Lake Malawi and surrounded by the Malawian people’s beautiful smile and hospitality.

今回の夏のマラウイでは、PIANOPIANOの新しいプロダクションと、現地のリサーチをして来ました。　また新たな経験ができ、お世話になった方達や、ワークショップのメンバーに感謝しています。

相変わらずの、ゆったりとしたマラウイ湖の風。　人々の笑顔。

私自身がいろいろなことを学ばせてもらう滞在でした。

Now “WORK” is the key word for PIANOPIANO 2014.

I have had an idea for a long time to make a product for work.

something to bring nice inspiration during the working day

something which makes you feel comfortable

something that looks cool!

今回のテーマは　”仕事”。　ずっと、ワーク服を作りたいなと思っていました。　　仕事中に素敵なインスピレーションが湧くようなワーク服。

Carefully we measured and cut the fabric so not to waste precious cotton. The design is thoughtful, so both women and men can wear it comfortably.

コットンは貴重なもの。無駄がでないように採寸、そして布を裁ちます。そしてなおかつ、メンズでもさっとはおれるように考慮して、パターンを作りました。

Music session

Recently at my flat a music session is becoming common on Sunday .

This Jambe came from Ghana, when I visited west Africa at first time, I met this Jambe at Ghana beach.
It makes spiritual and powerful tone.

A new member is this cool amp, I always love the design of Yamaha.
Simple and Cool.

In the summer time I am planning to do a Yoga session with african drum.

workshop -African sun and breeze

 

A necessary partner in producing art crafts here are the African sunshine and breeze.  The painted fabric, using Malawian cotton, is dried under the African sun with the breeze from lake Malawi helping with the process.

Each PIAOPIANO bag is made with this natural process.

 

 

 

ここで作られる物にとって、欠かせない仲間、それは太陽とそよ風。

ペイントワークには、マラウイ綿を使い、そしてさんさんと輝くアフリカの太陽の下で、勢いよく乾かされます。 ここでは、風が気持ちいいです。 マラウイ湖からくる風は、布を乾かすのを手伝ってくれます。

PIANOPIANOのかばんも一つずつ、こうやって作られているんですよ。

Workshop – stitching-stitching

 

 

 

In this workshop, there are two patterns of work, painting and stitching.

The local ladies mainly come to the workshop in the afternoon after their work at home, they work for around 3 or 4 hours each day. Around sun set they go back to their village.  They do what they should do at home, and their heart is always with their family.  Every day I am learning from them many things…

Some ladies come with their baby, they are so cute!!!  Everybody sings local songs while working, it is a lullaby for the babies (and me!)  The babies are completely relaxed with their mum, even when the baby starts to cry, many people appear to look after the child.  All the infants have the luxury of lots of attention and so much love …

In the warm atmosphere, the workshop the work is going on slowly slowly, PIANO PIANO…. 

 

ワークショップはデザイン→ペイント、デザイン→ステッチという流れになっています。

かばん、クッションカバー、壁かけ、テーブルクロスなどを作っています。

今回はステッチワークを紹介。 村の女性達はステッチの仕方を習い、一針一針縫っていきます。

大体、女性達は午前中家庭や村の仕事を終えて、お昼過ぎからのんびりやってきます。そして、３時間ぐらい、ステッチをして、日が暮れるころに、帰ります。 どこの国も、家庭との両立は大切ですね。

自分のなすべきことをやり、家族を大切にする女性達・・・学ぶ毎日です。

中には、ベイビーと一緒にくるママもいます。 そして、みんな現地の歌を歌いながら、それが子守歌のようになって、ベイビーはすやすや寝ています。 泣いても、いろんな人がベイビーのお世話をしてくれ、なんとも温かい雰囲気のなか、ゆっくりゆっくり、本当にPIANOPIANOのスピードで作られています。

Finally I came back to the workshop where the PIANOPIANO bags are made.  I was so happy to see the local people again.  Everybody seems fine and they laugh a lot !!!

By the way, I shared the photos of people who purchased PIANOPIANO products & PIANOPIANO bags.  The villagers were more pleased than I could have expected!  It made me very happy because I wanted to help them feel how wonderful it is to create something.  From a European and Asian side, we can easily see African pictures through the internet nowadays, but from this village in Malawi it is still difficult to see life in foreign countries and of course they don’t have access to the internet so much.

I hope these photos inspire them to create more wonderful designs.

さあ、７月末にマラウイ湖にあるワークショップへやってきました。

１年ぶりの再会。 みんな元気そうで安心しました。まず、みんなよく笑います。

「久しぶりー、ワッハッハッハッハー（大笑）元気だった？ワッハッハッハッハ（大笑）」 というふうに・・・

クスクス笑うんじゃんくて、大笑い。 そして、その笑いを聞くと、私も大笑いしてしまうのです。「笑い袋」｢ドリフのさくらの叔母ちゃんたちの笑い声」をいったら、分かってもらえるでしょうか。（この文は日本人専用）

さて！ まず、私が最初にここのワークショップへ来て、やりたかったこと。 みんなが頑張って作ってくれたPIANOPNOのかばんを、日本やイギリスで使ってくれている人達の写真をとって、地元のみんなに見せること。

どんな人達が、どんな風に、かばんを使ってくれているのか、写真を見せれば、みんなもイメージが沸き、物作りの楽しさをもっと感じてくれればいいなーと思って。今は、デジタル社会で写真を現像したりすることが少なくなったけれど、地元のみんなはやっぱりまだ写真の時代。

写真を見せたら、思った以上に、喜んで、歓声をあげていました。

なんとなく、繋がったような感じがして、嬉しくなりました。

協力してくれた、麻衣子、れいちゃん、四季ちゃん、ゆみちゃん、シボン、リンジー、本当にありがとう。

PIANOPIANOは、アフリカンタイムのフェアワークプロジェクトです。 アフリカ南部にあるマラウイでのフェアワークを紹介しています。 ご質問・ご意見があれば、気軽にしてくださいね。

PIANOPIANO は イタリア語で「ゆっくりと・・・」という意味です。 下のイタリア語の諺から、願いを込めて、プロジェクトの名前を数年前につけました。

Treasures from Budapest

31th October…as usual the Winter time has started ! The winter time and changing of the clocks, where I was born in Japan we don’t have this idea.  So for me it always feels a very mysterious tradition.  Everybody goes to their clocks or watch to change the time. The engagement with time.

I simply wanted to start with something colourful for the day.  We went to Royal Academy of Arts to see one of my favourite artists “Egon Schiele”. Actually, for me it was the first time to see an original picture by “Egon Shiele”.  I enjoyed the moment with the sound of rain this afternoon…

１０月３１日 今日からイギリスはウインタータイムが始まった。 １０月、私の働いている業界は、一番賑わいと忙しさを見せる（ヨーロッパの学校は１０月から新年度が始まるため）。私の大学も今年はいろいろな変革があり、私もくるくる回っている。

そんな１０月の最後の日曜日、恒例の冬時間の始まり。すべての時計を１時間遅らせる、不思議な儀礼をする。そう、今日は１時間をもらう不思議な日。これを境に暗くなるのが早くなる。今日起きた時、ゆっくりと、色のある日にしようと決めた。

ふと・・・この習慣を不思議に思う。 このイギリスで、ヨーロッパで、今日、ほとんどの人が時計に触れ・・・時計の針を１時間遅らせたであろう。 映像にしたら、おもしそう。時計をたくさん持っている人や、ロンドン塔の高い所につけられている時計は変えるのも一苦労・・・ そしてきっと、明日は、恒例の遅刻が多発。お約束は「ごめん、ウインタータイムで時計の針とかえるのを忘れてて・・・」 １年に２回、それが「まあ仕方ないか」と許される。

人と時間の決まりごと。 その約束事を、ちょっと崩すこの文化を、私はおもしろく思う。

ヨガの練習をして、Royal Academy of Arts のブタペスト展へ。大好きなEgon Shiele の絵を見に・・・・ オーストリア生まれのEgon Sheile の色合いが昔から大好き。高校時代に、美術大を目指していた友人が紹介してくれて以来、大好きな画家の一人だった。Egon Sheile の本物の絵を見るのは初めて。 目の前にしたとき、ちょっとドキドキした。 雨の音を聞きながら・・・そして、美大を目指していた彼女の指を思い出していた。

どんな作品も好きだなと思ってみると、 ピカソの絵。これ上の作品は、ピカソの初期の「青の時代」の終わりの作品。

スケッチが美しかった。

After that we went to buy Autumn Japanese sweets at Minamoto Kichouan, then went to a  “Pumpkin party”.  My friends cooked beautifully colourful dishes. 

その後に、日本の秋の和菓子を「源吉兆庵」で買って、パンプキンパーティへ・・・

そう、今日はハロウイン。恒例のかぼちゃのキャンドルを作り、パンプキンスープを作って、楽しみました。ベジタリアンも、グルテンアレルギーも食べれる秋の食べ物。 デザートは秋の日本菓子。 色とりどりの料理が並び、大人のハロウインパーティ。

下のかぼちゃは、クリスティナ作 「フレンチ パンプキンマン」を作成しているところ。

素晴らしい芸術と、ため息のでる色とりどりの落ち葉、温かい友達、今年の長い冬の始まりは、色のある日、温かい日となった・・・みんなありがとう。

Thanks to wonderful art, beautiful autumn leaves and warm friends and Lee, I could start this winter with a warm feeling.

 

 

* 前回トピックにした、「イスラエルの支援物資船」に乗り込んだ、フォトジャーナリストの友人はカメラを没収されたものの、無事にイギリスへ帰ってきました。

Takeru Niizato – exhibition “ Fantasy World ”

My great friend has held his first exhibition in Fukuoka- Japan.

Takeru was born in Takeo- Japan.  Since he was a child, his hands have created his wonder land.

His life is in the cafe called “Sankanjin”. This cafe is an illuminated space, they are in the mountain, this cafe is 100% hand made by his great father- Masao Niizato nearly 28 years ago. He is a simple wood carver who sculpts with a single knife.He is also a potter and a Chinese poet.  This cafe is a very unique fantasy space. Takeru has grown up in this space always surrounded by artistic people.

A few years ago, Takeru lost his hearing . Then one night a clownfish whispered to him  “ Draw.. draw your picture” in his dream. Then he started drawing what he dreamed…what he imagined.  See the below picture and you to can share what he saw.

Now his first exhibition is held in Fukuoka- Japan.

The title is “ GENSO SEKAI – Fantasy world” .  There are oil paintings and pottery as well.  Each picture has a unique story, and you may feel his world. I am sure you also have similar fantasies in your mind.
