Enjoying the color of April while tasting London borough of Jam.

Greengage Plum & Fennel Pollen Jam
The shop is opened the only weekend. http://www.londonboroughofjam.com/
Manocaldo hair salon is a sanctuary located at the top floor of a building in the bustling centre of Fukuoka in southern Japan.
My long term friend, Maiko, started manocaldo 10 years ago. Her skill with scissors is outstanding and she gives useful advise to her clients to help them naturally coordinate.
I really love her style of work and respect her philosophy. The origin of manocaldo is “warmhand” in Italian. You can be guaranteed to find a warm hand with this artisan skill.
When I visited her salon, she welcomed me with PIANOPIANO work apron. I was very happy to see her work and move with the apron.
Work + Movement = Art
The sounds of scissors, concentrating to make design and cut, it is an art. It was a joy to watch this creative monent and pianopiano apron was moving with the wonderful hair artist Shiki.
WORK APRON is the product of PIANOPIANO in 2014 using the traditional African batik textiles.
With African batiks wax is traditionally used to draw lines on the fabric and then the uncovered space are died with permanent colours. This allows both sides of the material have the same image when the wax is removed. As wax has more important uses and is expensive to purchase, the people in Malawi instead use starch paste. The paste is most often used from cassava flour or rice.
Each Apron, as well as the PIANOPIANO bags, display a unique design. You won’t find the exact same pattern no matter how hard you search! To make a cracked pattern it needs a heavy amount of pressure and a great deal of time to provide the desired pattern.
Each product is made by hand using cotton, which once died becomes hard and taught as a result of drying under the Malawi sun !
