Yoga bags limited version
From Malawi the yoga bags have arrived today.
This time they are slightly bigger than before. You can fit a yoga mat with blanket inside. Additionally a pocket is attached to the outside, so you can put your keys or small change in there.
The yoga bag is made from tough cotton that was grown under the lovely African sunshine. The textile pattern is unique for each bag.

前回のヨガバックは、有り難いことに、すぐに完売でした。 さて、今回のヨガバックは、前回のよりもちょっとゆったりめに作ってあります。ヨガバックとブランケットも入るサイズです。 そして、今回はヨガバックだけで身軽で歩きたいという人のために、チャック付きのポケットを外側につけてみました。小さなお財布や鍵などが入ります。
このPIANOPIANOの布はアフリカの太陽の元で育った、丈夫なコットンです。そしてオリジナルの布のパターンはオリジナルで、一枚一枚違います。
そして、PIANOPIANOのビーチバックもマラウイから、来ました。

I like the craft which has an earthy taste.
I like the craft which is made with natural resources under the sun.
I like the craft which the creator has a passion for.
When I went to Malawi in the summer of 2010, I met Malawian women and Sandra , who was born in Malawi, who works with Malawian women in Magochi.
I met Sandra Bizzaro by chance. The chance of meeting with Sandra was a miracle for me. She is Italian but she was born in Malawi. When I talked with her, immediately I understood her concept for her project. She started the project in 1997 and provides education which is being supplied in vocational subjects which enable the local community to gain skills. The group works from the Makokola Retreat and helps with essential work to help Malawian women become economically independent, they will in turn, try and educate their children and work for a better future for their communities.
Now 45 women and some men are involved in the process. No one is pushed into working and the work rhythm keeps a Malawian speed. It also respects their traditional life style and looks at ways to support this in the future. To make these products will takes time but it is our belief that this is how it was intended.
I decided to make Yoga bags and simple carry bag with Sandra and the women of Magochi.

２０１０年夏にマラウイへ行った時に、素敵なイタリア人女性サンドラとマラウイ人の女性達に、縁あって出会いました。
サンドラとは、ふと偶然に出会いましたが、その出会いは、不思議な出会いであり、運命のような出会いでした。
イタリア人のサンドラはマラウイ生まれ。お祖母さんたちの代から、マラウイ・ザンビアに住んでいます。
サンドラは、本当をいつも目指す物づくりの性格。マラウイ湖の近くにワークショップをかまえ、１９９０年ごろから、村の女性達に、裁縫を教えています。いつもいつも手が動いている人。ワークショップでは、マラウイの現地語チェワ語、イタリア訛りの英語が飛び交います。 ぼ～っとしていると、「のり～こ！のり～こ！！」とシャウトされます。 どちらかといえば、マラウイ女性とスピードが近い私は、マラウイ湖の風に吹かれてると、ぼ～っとアフリカンタイムになりがち・・・ とにかく、サンドラの日本人ばりの働きぶりには、体大丈夫かな・・・と心配になるほどでした。
男性が仕事にいき、女性は村で料理を作り、子供の世話をする。たまに、男性が酒飲みだと、働いたお金は酒代に・・・女性達は、ただ村に座り、子供をあやしている。 サンドラは、座っている時間に、裁縫などをして、クラフトを作れば、女性達も少しは自立できる・・・ということで、女性達に呼びかけ、技術を教えています。
ワークショップには、約45人の女性達と、数名の男性がきています。みな、大切な家族の時間（焚き火集め、料理、子供の世話）もこなし、その空いた時間にきて、技術を学び、働いています。
大きな木の机と、いすが少しあって、さんさんと輝く太陽の下、みんなアフリカンタイムで働いています。
私は、サンドラとのミーティングや働く姿をみがなら、彼女のフィロソフィーに共感しました。 やはりマラウイで生まれ育ったので、よくみんなのことやマラウイの状況をよく理解している。 ヨーロッパから来ているボランティア・チャリティーとは違うアイデアのある人でした。 話すたびに、２人で共感することが多く、 私がずっとやりたかったヨガバックづくりは、彼女のところでやることにしました。
そういう意志のあるかばんです。

PROJECT AIR (Ashtanga yoga in Rwanda)

4年前(2007年）にケニアのマサイマラへ行った時、若いマサイ族のみんなと（20歳ぐらい）話をしていました。話題は動きについてでした。マサイ族の方たちは、高く飛んで、伝統の踊りを披露します。その動きについて、いろいろな質問をしていました。そこで一人の男の子が、私に尋ねました。「で。法子はどういった踊りをするの？」「う～ん、クラシックバレエ・ヨガ・日本舞踊を少々」と応えました。「バレエ？何それ？」説明すると面倒なので、ポジションを教えて、ちょっとみせて、一緒にやってみました。ファーストポジション、プリエ、アラベスクなどど。マサイの戦士達も、つかの間のバレエレッスン、かなたには、ハイエナやバッファローがうろうろしながら。みんな「おおお」と、喜んでいました。そして、次。ヨガ。空手は有名なのですが、ヨガにはみな、？。息のことや、そして、スタンディングポーズ。「木のポーズ」などをみなでやってみました。それが、みなさん、よくできる。
さて前置きが長くなりましたが、その時から思っていたこと、アフリカでのヨガって一体どうなのかな～と・・・心と体を大切にするヨガがアフリカでできたらいいのにな～と、長い間思っていました。
そして2月、前から行ってみたかった、ロンドン南にあるアシュタンガのヨガスタジオ the shalaへ 行った時のこと。出合ったワークショップ「project air ]。ルワンダでのヨガボランティアのプロジェクトです。
このワークショップでは、フルプライマリーのレッドクラスをして、お茶を飲みながら、みなでproject air の活動を皆でスライドショーを見ました。実際に現地でヨガを教えていたアシュタンガヨガの先生の話も聞け、貴重なワークショップでした。この主催をした、the shala Gingi 先生のクラス、もっとうけてみないと。この日のワークショップは project air へのチャリティーイベントでした。この活動がルワンダを良い方向へ、そして末永く続いてきますように・・・私も協力したいと思います。
When I visited MASAI MARA in Kenya, I was chatting with young Masai people about movements. As you know, in Masai traditional dance, they jump very high. I was asking about the traditional movements. One Masai guy asked me, “So, Noriko, how about you? What kind of movement do you do?” I replied “ Well, I do classic ballet, yoga and Japanese dance as well.” He picked up the word “ballet“, he asked again “What is the ballet?“ I thought I had better show them rather than explaining. First, second, fifth position, prier, and arabesque etc… the Masai warrior copied me, it was like a ballet lesson. I could see Hyenas and buffalos behind the view ! They seemed to be enjoying it, next was Yoga. Marshal arts like Karate and Judo is famous but they had a question mark about Yoga. ???. I explained a little bit about breathing, we tried to do standing pose, then tree pose. They had done well !
Sorry for the long story… I just wanted to say, since then I was thinking about Yoga in Africa, how it would be a nice way for Africans to connect their body and mind.
I went to Ashtanga Yoga Studio called the Shala in London Clapham Common. There I found a wonderful project “The project Air“. It is the use of Yoga to support survivors of the war in Rwanda.
This workshop had an Ashtanga full primary led class then while drinking a cup of tea, we watched the slide show about project air. I could listen to the precious story from the teacher. About how she has taught Ashtanga yoga in Rwanda and the affect it had on peoples lives. The day in London was a charity event and a wonderful workshop.
I believe this project has gone toward a true, pure direction and will run for a long time.

In fact, everyone should support it, especially now that it is taking its inspiring work into other troubled regions, like Eastern Congo.” Madonna
